Oh red apple how I love thee.. Let me count the ways! Anyone who doesn't love this place is a miserable, snobby, picky, looking to complain about something kind of person! Sure I've always had a long wait to be seated , but so what! The food is so good, the bacon ( mmmmmmm bacon) is perfect, the coffee is served in a big mug. The wait staff is great, even the guys who clean off the table are super nice and funny guys! I used to go their all the time because I dated someone close by, now I travel like 35 mins to get there less often but I think about it every time I go out for breakfast! I wish I could head out there more often. 5 stars every time! *on a side note; I hate hate hate hate hate pancakes HOWEVER- I don't know what magic ingredients you guys use in your batter but in over 25+ years I have never enjoyed a pancake. But I tried the one at red apple ( just for kicks cause it came with my meal) and OMG! my eyes have been opened, but only for red apple , because every other pancake anywhere else sucks.

I gotta say the only saving grace about living in those shitty apartments across the street (yeah, you know the ones) was having Red Apple within walking distance. Be sure to get here early because this place is ALWAYS packed. Right around 9am is when things start to pick up and you could be waiting in line for a solid hour. But their food is definitely worth it. I was always a huge fan of their Popeye skillet (it had bacon, spinach, and general cheesy goodness throughout) and opted for the pumpkin pancakes when they were in season. Really, nothing on the menu here is a dud. Pro-tip: I advise you to either tough out the wait or just go to McDonald's for breakfast and NOT go to Carol's Garden down the way and across the street. You might as well be eating out of the trash.

Met friends here several times this year for breakfast on Saturdays- the food been good, not great and the service very good for the amount of people they pack in... and I do mean pack- I needed to ask people at other tables to get up so i could exit to go to the washroom. The parking can be horrible- just not enough for the amount of people they get. I have needed to circle or wait every time i have come.

Outstanding! brought my nieces and nephew here after a run - everything was great and exceptional service

Review #401 This was a very good experience. SERVICE: 5 stars. Let me start by saying our server was Jacquie (it had a "q" somewhere) and she was excellent. She didn't write ANYTHING down and she always got what we needed and our orders were 100% correct. Even when I mistakenly thought she had missed something, I realized I didn't even see it on the table. She was excellent. FOOD: Delicious food and huge portions. My skillet had four eggs and my husbands "crows nest" had four eggs as well. (See pictures). $8.99 for my huge skillet. The huge Apple pancake has two options: junior and the huge one we got. The huge one is $13.99 ( if I remember correctly). My skillet was great. Just enough mozzarella with plenty of hashbrowns and veggies. I usually like to add jalapeños but they had hot sauce so I was good. My sister liked her burger. It didn't have much look appeal but no biggie. The Apple pancake takes 30 minutes so put the order in right away. We were seated very quickly and we came in at 2:06pm with less than hour till closing. I didn't use the bathrooms so I can't comment. The restaurant was clean. The staff were friendly. It seems very popular. Plenty of parking. Brunch hours are fine. Large portions at great prices. We enjoy coming here and next time we are in town, we will definitely be back. Oh and I saw the owner (I think) and his son or other male relative sitting. He took our plates at one point but he was definitely somewhere higher up on the hierarchy in that restaurant based on the interactions. He put lemon on his skillet and I plan to try that next time!!

Been here a few times and I have not been impressed. I am a breakfast junkie and I love breakfast food, so I am quite picky. This place is just OK. I agree with others about the big portions, but a big portion isn't great when the food is mediocre. I've ordered a skillet and it was just OK. Nothing about my skillet stood out, except for the fact that it came with 4 eggs! It didn't have much flavor. I honestly can't remember what I ordered the first time I was there, only thing I remember is the dirty coffee cup and dirty fork I was given. Since the restaurant is a minute away from me I am sure I will be back but I know not to expect much.

After 17 check ins, probably more seeing as I come here so often, I am still infatuated with this place. There's just something about it, this place is so homey. You walk in, there are apples everywhere! Pleasant employees that you will see basically every time you come in, and the food is just out of this world. Nonetheless, its really decently priced. If you're a plain Jane, their "From The Chicken Coop" deals are the best. My mom and I can get 2 eggs, a load of hash browns, and an English muffin or pancakes for 3.99. That's hard to beat. Keep in mind, their eggs are old country style, so you get double the eggs. :) Just saying, this place should be named The Golden Apple. Love it. Love everything about this place. It's fabulous. I can almost guarantee you won't be disappointed... Unless of course you own a farm and are a professional cook. I am neither, so bravo apples!
(5)Michele S.
I can say if you are looking for huge servings of food at a decent price, this is the place for you. I ordered the Red Apple Skillet. I thought the food tasted very good. The coffee was disgusting, however. It tasted like cheap Hill Brothers coffee. Here's why it gets 1 star: the interior is dark and depressing with ancient décor. I wouldn't normally care if it was squeaky clean, but it was not. Being that it was a Tuesday, and not very busy, I expect the place to look cleaner on the inside. The biggest reason for the 1 star, I got horrible diarrhea about 2 hours after I ate, so I concluded that the kitchen and/or cooks are dirty, or the food is not fresh. This place is not for me. Will not be back.

*shaking head* This just doesn't happen to me. I couldn't finish my food... Our first time there.. been driving by for years and never really thought much about the place. The Yelp reviews drew me in, particularly Joe E who's been there like a billion and one times. We went just after lunch time, so it wasn't crowded at all... Maybe I shouldn't have snacked on toast that morning... I asked Lisa.. "What do you think I'm going to get?".. she mumbled.."something with a lot of meat"... the "The Butcher Block Omelette" *sigh*... sometimes I am a little predictable. That's what I ordered.. Lisa pulled the same stunt on me.. I smugly said "The California Omelette"... NOPE! She wanted the Portobello Mushroom Omelette. I'll bet she would have gotten the California if I hadn't said anything. These are oven baked, four egg omelettes, they are loaded with fillings.. light, fluffy and delicious. Mine was really, really great. Hers was good, perfectly cooked, huge and fluffy... just like mine... but it was too mushroomy for her (I've never heard her say THAT before, I hate mushrooms so I would notice something like that) The Portobello's were just too much.. she should have gotten the California. (hmmmm...) The potatoes are my favorite type of home fries, they get them good and crispy on the outside... fortunately for me.. Lisa gave me half of hers.. and I had some leftovers for later... delicious! We chose pancakes instead of toast, I had the regular ones and they were great... Lisa upgraded to Pumpkin pancakes for an extra $1.. soooo worth it.. she said they were the best she's ever had.. I tasted them too and thought they were a real stand out. So, I had leftovers, the bill was inexpensive and the quality of the food outstanding.. Atmosphere is typical suburban breakfast place.. spacious booths. Great food and value.. this place is the real deal and my new favorite breakfast place in the area!
(5)Katrina S.
Had the Red Apple salad and it was amazing!!! Came with soup, breadstick, and waffle fries - all for $9 on the lunch special. I'm so stuffed. Everything was tasty and fresh and I could not have asked for better! Everyone's omelets and waffles looked so good, too. I'll definitely be back!
(5)Robert G.
Consider splitting a single menu item here, because Red Apple Pancake House delivers quantity with the quality. I got a Californian omelet with pancakes. My wife got a ham and pineapple omelet. For starters, it turns out they double the number of eggs on the menu. So an item with 2 eggs actually has 4... and I guess that means the omelets have 8? That seems right, surprisingly, because I'm pretty sure the omelet alone weighed a pound. They also seem to have doubled the amount of fillings too. My omelet wasn't particularly fluffy, but it definitely had a lot of vegetables, well cooked. They throw it in the oven at the end for a few minutes, so a light brown "crust" forms on the outside of the omelet. I like it. The pancakes are light, as are the potatoes, which resemble scalloped potatoes without any sauce. The coffee is good and so is the syrup. Red Apple is close enough to home to be our regular breakfast place from now on. It also helps that we get three meals for the price of one.
(4)Kerri L.
Went here for breakfast with the family. It was very busy on Sunday, but the wait wasn't too long. The Red Apple skillet was really good, and it was plentiful enough to reheat the leftovers the next day. The man loved the biscuits and gravy, preferring them over the biscuits and gravy we get from our usual breakfast place, and the kids loved their eggs and pancakes. I would definitely go back. Our waitress was really nice, too.
(4)Mandy K.
Great diner. I have gone here for breakfast and lunch and each time it has been crowded. However in typical diner fashion you are able to move pretty quickly. Only on Sunday after church will you have to wait for a significant amount of time. The wait staff is very nice and friendly, the coffee is great, and the food is well above average.
(4)Dr M.
Best Breakfast in the area!! Service is wonderful too!! Be careful, each egg is X2! Huge Omelettes!
(5)Michael L.
This place has huge portions. Pancakes come in either 4 or 6 and they are HUGE. Plenty to share with at least 1 other person. The waitress was very nice and did a good job of making sure the coffee cup was always full. Today (Fathers day) there was a HUGE line. They had people waiting outside and on the drive way!
(4)Bernice R.
Breakfast, I'll be seeing you a lot more often now that I've found Red Apple Pancake House! Big portions, good coffee, decent prices, friendly wait staff, and quick service! What else can you ask for in a breakfast restaurant. I had corned beef, scrambled eggs, and hash browns. I was content with my choice, but I think for next time, I'll try their PANCAKES! Ah, I should always go with what is advertised in the restaurants name!!! Anyway, next time. Oh yes, there will be a next time!
(4)Juhui S.
We came here with a few friends today. It's very homey, the portions are huge, and the staff are very nice. I had the Belgian with poached eggs...and lemme tell you ..THE WAFFLE WAS SO FLUFFY. Portions are big enough to split between two to three persons. &&the portions are good. It's worth coming.
(4)Armando R.
Their breakfast is great. Everything I've tried is good, but I love their skillets. They have a good lunch menu as well and their soup tastes home made. They get very busy on the weekends, but it's worth the wait.
(5)Carolyn H.
This place never disappoints. The food is delicious, plentiful, fresh and nothing less than satisfying. The servers are friendly, attentive, genuine and helpful. I have been to various breakfast joints across the country and Red Apple remains my absolute favorite.
(5)Demi G.
Service is great and this place is usually pretty full on a weekday late morning. My main complaint is that I wish they used more fresh fruits and veggies rather than having such a big menu. I noticed that a lot of their fruits and veggies were either from frozen or from cans. I ordered the Sonoma Country skillet that had potatoes, eggs, monterey jack cheese, broccoli, mushrooms and chicken pieces. I think the only fresh items in that skillet were the eggs, cheese and potatoes. Maybe the mushrooms... The broccoli seemed to be thawed from frozen and was mostly stalks. The chicken seemed really dry. My significant other ordered the peach crepes and the server kindly informed him that it would come in "a sauce". Well, the peaches were from canned and the sauce was the juice from the can. For a place that seems to be bustling on weekday mornings, you'd think fresh produce would be a no-brainer. After this most recent visit, I'll probably go somewhere that uses fresh produce next time. Sorry, Red Apple!
(2)S B.
I cannot say enough about the apple pancake!! Would go back for this alone.... Definitely meant for 2 or more people. Fast service and quality food... Every item on the menu is cooked to perfection & quite tasty!!
(5)Dave L.
Not worth the wait. Not only were they horribly inaccurate on the 10 minute wait (we waited 30), but the waitress was really rude and indifferent. I know you're busy, but c'mon you could at least be nice. Food was okay. My over easy eggs were not done. Lots of runny egg whites. We liked that they served double yolk eggs though. To be fair, we didn't order of their specialties. But, the standard breakfast was just so-so. Price was great and coffee was good.

Every single time I am in Beverly Hills of Illinois (DuPage County), I make sure to stop by Red Apple Pancake House. As my fellow Elite Yelp members have stated myriad times; there is no restaurant with the word "apple" in their name that is bad. Red Apple Pancake House is by far my favorite restaurant (can't you tell with all my check ins and photos?) My noble profession of molding the minds of future America through fitness, nutrition, and physical education has taken me multiple counties South of DuPage. I've been back in the area a lot lately and with every visit I always make sure to stop by for coffee, a gigantic omelet filled with love, and amazing buckwheat and/or pumpkin pancakes. Let me explain! It starts out crowded. You're worried about the overflowing crowd coming out of the door during the middle of winter. It's a brisk eight degrees outside but you couldn't care less; breakfast in heaven awaits. You know what you're getting...you've looked through the menu. Sure, it's 11:00 AM. and you could could the famous cream of chicken with rice soup, a Red Apple Cheeseburger cooked to order, or even their famous waffle fries. Don't fret young man/lady...you know breakfast fare is where your heart, brain, and stomach want to go on this culinary adventure. You see the options: samplers (think eggs and sausage), waffles, the "Dutch Baby", and even some cereals. Eggs equals breakfast. Here at Red Apple the math is simple! Two eggs turns into four. I've ALWAYS ordered an omelet with multiple vegetables. I love getting it with avocado. It's sweet creamy goodness at its finest. Sure, you could go with one of the omelets on the menu...but why not get out of the palette comfort zone? Load it up with broccoli, mushroom, and avocado! You want a kick in the ass, tough guy? How about a jalapeno, onion, tomato, and black olive party in your mouth? I am drooling as I type...wait...I am not...because my coffee cup was just re-filled without even taking two gigantic gulps.Maybe change it up get a little avocado in that omelet as I mentioned before? Dare to be different! Listen, I used this restaurant going from 225 lbs. to 175 lbs. No excuses. Yes, of course, you can't get the Mickey Mouse Pancakes every day (sugar overload). You also can't drink a Coca Cola and expect to add muscle and lose fat. Red Apple can and is a nutritious option. More so than other breakfast establishment in the area. You're telling me I can get fruit instead of hash browns? Count me in! Strawberries AND blueberries in the aforementioned fruit cup...in the middle of winter? You've got to be kidding me? I thought this place was just a diner in disguise...YOU WERE WRONG! I've built my own omelet, got my coffee and fruit cup...good, right? WRONG AGAIN! You get pancakes or toast? Sure...go with toast...you milquetoast! I will take fluffy buttermilk...NO WAIT! How about buckwheat? It's not on the menu...just ASK! Sweet and silky goodness! Fall means pumpkin pancakes! Some places only have them during fall...NOT THIS PLACE! Oh, it is April...yes, I will take some pumpkin pancakes, RED APPLE! Honestly, the servers and hosts don't BS with anything. They turn tables like Jesus Christ turned water into wine (or was it wine into water...I should go to church and find the answer). Sorry Jesus...I am going to Red Apple on the Sabbath! I pray that you forgive me...but this place is that good! I would recommend Dar or Andi. Both are great to talk to and always make me laugh. Not saying that if you have anyone else the service will suffer, but with them you will get a fluffy omelet, some laughs, and a steaming cup of coffee!!! If you're looking for a cheap, quick, and delicious meal at an unreal price...Red Apple is the way to go. Don't mess around and go to Carol's Garden (although delicious), Egglectic, or Egg Harbor. Why have butt steak when the filet mignon is there or the taking? Paraphrasing the great Ricky Bobby, if you don't eat at Red Apple, than F(&* you!
(5)Operacelia S.
I left before I finished my meal. The food was a mash of junk of food. Old clunky decor. Apple is always packed. They must be doing something right.
(1)A M.
Really love their food & friendly service. Plus they're close to home!!!! .
(4)Steve G.
Now that's what I'm talking about. Whoever created and manages this place needs to franchise this! Showed up at prime time Sunday morning. Got a nice thin number to hold onto. Host called out the number in about 5 minutes and we were seated at a clean table. The upside down coffee cups were NOT sitting directly on the table, but on nice little napkins. Nice touch! Coffee was good, staff was efficient. Ordered a sampler that had everything I wanted, a couple slices of French Toast, bacon, sausage, and scrambled eggs. Simple. Syrup was real maple syrup. Jelly basket had Smucker's jelly in it and lots of options, including apple cinnamon jelly... Nice big portions of everything. Food arrived quickly. All in all, everything was spot on. In fact, I forgot to bring my bill with me when I went to the register to check out and they brought it up instantly and I paid without running back to the table. They even know how to use the TECHNOLOGY! Cool! TIP: Check out the SAMPLERs for 3 quick options...
(4)Stephanie S.
Cheerful decor and tasty food. My 11 year old daughter loved the ribeye steak and wants to give 5 stars. Crowded on Saturday morning but I suppose that's a testament to the popularity. Minor complaint: waitress didn't notice my empty coffee cup. But it was very busy. Crepes were delicious and I appreciated them substituting meat far hash browns when I asked.
(4)Jessie W.
I have eaten here many times and the portions are huge. My breakfast was really good but my friend that I went with got really sick after eating with me. I felt so bad since I was the one who wanted to go here. I was fine so I don't know what happened but I wouldn't go back just because of that. The service was really good and yes it is an older place but that doesn't matter to me. I hate losing this place since the prices are good and you get so much food but I just cannot go back after what happened to my friend, had that not happened it would have been 5 stars.
(2)Julie Y.
Friendly staff.. great food... but then again how can you get eggs and pancake wrong?
(4)Diane C.
Red Apple is a very nice place to get a good breakfast, any day of the week. Servings are good sized, and the quality of the ingredients is very good. I've been there twice in the last two weeks, and their specials are definitely worth ordering, because they make use of fresh, seasonal ingredients that are not always on the menu. You can't go wrong with their omelettes or their benedicts. Even the toast is good. The waitresses working for Red Apple are also some very nice people. We're going back again soon.
(4)Eric G.
Absolutely love this place. It gets really busy on weekends but generally I'm able to get seated within 15-20 minutes. I'm not a coffee drinker but my friends I've taken there have ranted and raved about how tasty the coffee is as well as enjoying the food. I love their quick service and the food is plentiful. I especially love the swiss and mushroom omelette that I usually order. Been here many times over the years and will be back soon.
(5)Wendy K.
This used to be my family's go-to breakfast place -- it's near our house, food was tasty and the kids really liked it. We'd always go the day before school started (for an end-of-summer breakfast) and the last day of school -- you know, they make the kids go for 30 minutes to pick up report cards so they're free for the day around 9 am. Let's go out to breakfast! We'd usually see tons of other families and teachers there as well. Then we had an incident that turned us off so badly that we've never returned. We sat down, and a bus boy came by with water. He managed to knock an entire glass of ice-cold water into my husband's lap. He didn't apologize or even acknowledge it. We waited to see if anyone else would comment; nothing. My husband, who used to manage restaurants and knows how customers should be treated, went to talk to the manager. The guy just basically said, "Oh well, stuff happens." No apology, no nuthin'. We can get better food and much, MUCH better service at our new favorite brunch cafe, so I guess this place did us a favor in the end.
(2)Toni F.
We came here for Mother's Day. We had called the day before and were told that they do not take reservations. I arrived at 945am for a table of 6. At 1115 we still had not been sat. When I talked to the manager he advised that tables with reservations were being sat before us. I don't appreciate being lied to multiple times.
(1)Joe P.
It was a really good place! Very quaint and homey. I was sort of skeptical on ordering chorizo meat but it was very good! The only negative was each refill was an extra full drink price.
(4)Dan B.
At first it might appear that Red Apple is similar to many other Chicagoland pancake houses. The menu of of pancakes, skillets, and other breakfast items may seem familiar, but Red Apple excels in one way that few other places do, portion size. Red Apple provides a lot of food for a reasonable price, be it an omelet, pancake dish or skillet, your order is going to contain far more food than most places for the price. For the most part service is quick, and the food is prepared in a timely fashion. Not everything at Red Apple is necessarily great though, everything tastes fresh and the quality of the ingredients are never a question mark. However, some things are a bit bland and not necessarily as well seasoned as other independently run breakfast restaurants in the area. Overall Red Apple is a very solid place for breakfast, the food isn't necessarily the best, but the quality is decent, the service holds up, and the value due to the hefty portions is definitely there. You won't leave hungry.
(3)Melanie B.
My brother has been talking about this place for months. My boyfriend and I have gone here twice so far but haven't been let down either time. The staff was very friendly and the food was fantastic. The omelets are huge and the skillets are great. We were greeted immediately and seated very quickly. Food was served pretty fast. Will definitely be eating here again.
(5)Lana C.
This place almost always has a wait, so be prepared for that. If you are willing to wait you will most likely enjoy your time here. They have creative menu items and they are all great. I am very specific about my eggs, I have needed to send things back before and they are quick about making me satisfied. Food: Must have the back, the French toast is always good, however I am not a big fan of their stuffed french toast, and I cannot pin point why. Skillets are yummy, all of the food is enjoyable. Service: From my memory it has always been wonderful. Everyone is always pleasant and I never feel rushed to order by the staff. I am a loyal patron and will continue to be.
(5)Dan K.
I struggle with reviews sometimes. Cause, I liked this place. But, I didn't really like it enough to go back. Well, maybe it's more about the fact that there are places I'd rather go for breakfast/brunch. Anyway, it's pretty standard brunch fare. The food was good. I had an omelette and it was tasty. There was a lot of food so I took some home. The service was good. Can't complain. The staff was friendly. It appeared to be pretty family friendly as well.
(3)Estela C.
This is my family favorite place to have a breakfast. I Love the food, the service. Definitely recommend this place.
(5)Kevin S.
Best breakfast place around by far!! Everything on the menu tastes fresh, with high quality ingredients. Have never had a bad experience at this place. Only complaint is that they close at 3 pm.
(5)Corinne H.
This is my favorite breakfast spot for a couple of reasons: - 2 eggs = 4 eggs - Their raspberry crepes are fantastic. - Their combos are cheap and come with more than enough food. - The staff is super nice and the service is super fast. - The owners take pride in their restaurant and are always there. - My coffee cup is never empty I could go on for a while. It's a great place and I'm a frequent customer. I highly suggest giving it a try if you haven't already.
(5)Rob H.
I give Red Apple 3.5 stars. I recently had a ham & cheese omelette with hashbrowns which were tasty. The coffee is good as well. The staff is friendly.
(3)Joseph B.
I went here this morning around 10 AM. I found the parking lot crowded, which is a good sign especially for midweek. They seated me right away and the waitress arrived within a minute with a pot of coffee in hand. She poured the coffee and gave me time to look over the menu. She was back after about five minutes, which was plenty of time for me to decide and change my mind a few times. I placed my order and sat back to enjoy the coffee. The coffee was okay at best, not the greatest. After a few minutes, I decided to go wash my hands in the restroom. I as only gone a minute or two, but when I returned to my table, I found the busboy cleaning and setting it up. My coffee gone. I went to the front and told the manager, he didn't seem too surprised. I decided to just leave. I told him to cancel my order and he said okay. The busboy, being to aggressive to do his job, ruined a good, if not great, experience. I doubt I will return.
(1)Michelle P.
This place has great food and service. My husband and I went here a few months back and now go at least once a week and usually it is on a Sunday after church. This place is always busy and always packed but the wait is not even long and it is worth it since the food is that great. Prices are reasonable too and nice family environment to be in. Only thing I wish was for the restaurant to be open a little later since it does close by 3. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family and their friends : )
(5)Kaye D.
Food servings are generous, prices are quite reasonable because of the large portions and I generally need a take home box to eat the rest of my dish later. The restaurant gives off a very homey feel, like you're in someone's kitchen. There are decorations of apples all around giving a nod to the restaurant name. They serve breakfast and lunch and are open from 6AM-3PM. On my most recent visit, we came in at 9AM on Saturday morning and we were able to grab a table for 2 without a wait. The place was already full. But with it serving mostly breakfast items at the time (I doubt many people were ordering off the lunch menu at this time), tables were turning over pretty quickly. One thing I appreciate about the servers is how they can take your order without having to write it down. There are quite a few here who do that, and I always think that's a pretty cool skill to have. Also, when they have the coffee pot, I noticed they also check on the surrounding tables to see if they need a refill (again, only some of them). Of the ones I have experienced, they are very kind and sweet servers. Expect large portions of whatever you decide on the menu, and you can't really go wrong. I usually stay on the breakfast side of the menu, so I can't vouch for lunch items. This time we around opted for the classic benedict and the gyro skillet. From the point of ordering to serving, it took 10 minutes. (Yes I timed it - but only because the clock was right in front of me.) And the food itself is absolutely divine in my book.
(5)Don B.
I am not a breakfast person. (I do not generally like breakfast food.) Nevertheless, I was impressed. Food was well prepared and plentiful. (The apples in the caramel crepes were actually fresh.) The service was cordial, efficient and fast, even though the place was quite busy. I would definitely return.
(4)Matt M.
This place was hopping on a Sunday morning. And rightfully so. It was frickin delicious, affordable, and fun. Definitely like an IHOP on steroids with a much happier staff, a nicer management team, and fresher food. Not to mention you get MONSTROUS portions that will keep you full the rest of the day. I rarely find breakfast places that impress me, but today I was thoroughly impressed.
(5)Adam M.
Amazing food. Apple pancake, corned beef hash, and French toast are the best I've ever had.
(5)S S.
Best place for breakfast no doubt. Great menu, good service and tasty food. awesome deep dish apple pancakes.
(5)Tiger L.
The food is pretty good but the servers are hit or miss. Some are rude and defensive while others are pleasant and polite. Portions are large and not overpriced.
(3)Michelle N.
So delicious! I had an omelet dish with 2 big pancakes. Omg so good, these servers were so nice! Love this place.
(5)Christine S.
The coffee here is superb..although, they definitely should invest in some new coffee mugs, a lot are chipped which is prone to bacteria! the eggs are always cooked to perfection & taste better than your average eggs. I'm not sure what their secret is there. I love their skillets! Great portions, I always have leftovers. The decor & cleanliness of the place could definitely be improved , hence the 4 stars.

i used to eat here years ago, and it was fine. today i had one of the singularly most horrible meals of my life. do NOT order the eggs benedict. the "hollandaise" sauce looked and tasted just like yellow chicken gravy. i just finished fasting for some lab tests, and was starving, or i really would have sent it back. i even asked the waitress if the had chicken gravy in the kitchen, thinking someone might have gotten their ladles mixed up. the answer was no. the ham was tasteless, and so were the eggs. hash browns were decent. i'll never eat here again.

I love this place. I go there on a regular basis for about a year or so since the food is consistently very good. I love the cheese omelette and the strawberry crepes. I also like the service. It is very friendly and prompt. Once in a while it may slack just a bit, but nothing major. If you come later in the morning on the weekends, be prepared to wait. This is a popular place. However, the wait is normally not long and the food and service is well worth the wait.

Normally a great place; however, last Sunday we had a bad experience. Our server was unpleasant from the get-go and the situation proceeded to go downhill from there. When she arrived with the wrong order, she asked if it was "ok anyway". Well, no, it wasn't what was ordered. She then proceeded to blame it on the kitchen. It felt like she may have messed up the order and a simple apology and offer to replace the food would have been far more gracious than to blame it on the kitchen. After she placed a new order, which never came, a complaint to the manager with her standing within earshot didn't seem to matter. My advice to the server, if you don't like your job QUIT. I'm sure when she checked back at the table she may have been surprised to get a big $0 for a tip. Disappointing to say the least.

I would say pretty average. Feels like a truckers' stop diner.. .but that doesn't bother me. Potatoe hash tasted like they used old potatoes. Friendly service a plus!

What a gem!!!! This place has some of the best breakfast I've ever had. I had the gyro skillet, the meat was great the eggs were fresh and the way they put everything together was phenomenal. The atmosphere was cozy, the noise was low and the service was great. I will defiantly be returning for more from red apple!!!

After reading the reviews on Yelp we thought we would try them out for a Sunday breakfast. The wait time was long, almost thirty minutes. We saw a family who seemed to know the manager sneak through and get seated ahead of many long waiting customers. The parking lot was full and many patrons seemed to not mind the wait, so we figured the food must be pretty good. What a disappointment. It was not horrible, but it was very bland to say the least. We had a order of house pancakes and the French orchard. The French Orchard had no taste, you could not even detect any cinnamon in the cinnamon bread. The sauce had an odd flavor. The pancakes were just bland, Bisquick has more flavor. Was not worth the wait. This place is off our list for future breakfasts.

I frequent this place, and I have NEVER had a bad meal or service- no matter how busy they are (weekends!) I am greeted with a smile, and never disappointed- usually sit in Darlene's section, and she takes care EVERY time! No matter who our server is, the visit usually ends with a hug..... I love this place, and will always return - thanks Gus & Ginny, for making my family feel so welcome, and being "spot on" with food & service- every time!

Not bad for the price. My gf and I got out of that place for under $25 with tip and my meal came with four eggs. Definitely worth it!

Reasons I like Red Apple: 1) I can order take-away. It's always ready within 10 minutes. 2) It's cheap with big portions. I always have leftovers for another meal later. 3) It's super-close to my job. Breakfast food for lunch! 4) Fluffy pancakes. 5) Friendly staff at the counter. Reasons I don't like Red Apple: Out of the 5 times I've ordered, only once did the eggs come the way I asked. Make sure to clearly specify "very runny" if you want it that way. Otherwise, they're chalky and over-cooked. Generic corn syrup, the flimsiest plasticware I've ever used, and the times I've gotten fruit, it's been tasteless and not too ripe. TIPS: You can order takeaway by viewing their online menu on their website, but the website doesn't even list their phone number that I can see, so you can get that here on yelp.

My husband and I had breakfast here recently after a long hiatus and despite the wait it was very enjoyable. Our waitress, Jennette, was very attentive, and our meal was very good, not to mention filling. We both ordered the Eggs Benedict; mine was the original and his was the biscuits and gravy version. In all my years on this planet I had never had Eggs Benedict before, so I'm glad they were so good. I will definitely be ordering them again next time we eat here, which, despite how good the food is, will be a long while simply because I'm not big on eating out for breakfast. First of all, the food here is pretty good, I don't have a problem with the food. HOWEVER, The attitude and the service has really declined. Declined to the point I will not return. I have been patronizing this restaurant for a good 5 or 6 years and I am done going back. Last time I went there I was with my husband. We walked in and received a number to wait for a table. The place was moderately busy and only another couple was waiting. I received the number 44 and as we waited, the restaurant started to fill up. Additional parties came in and received numbers to wait, too. They called #43, then eventually called #45... Hey, wait a minute, what about me? They skipped over my number. Other parties continued to come in and the man then called #46, and #47. At this point, other parties waiting for tables started to notice, and even mentioned that I had been skipped over. I went up to the young man behind the registered and ask why they had skipped me. He said "well, you're only a party of two. We seat parties of four before parties of two." I explained that there were open tables and he very obnoxiously pointed to the section, and literally YELLED, "YOU can't sit THERE! YOU have to wait for THAT section to clear out!" To which i replied, "how long do you expect me to wait?" and he reiterated "well you can't sit in that section." I told him to forget it, and we left. I want to emphasize how accurate the review before me is. She mentioned that there were TONS of flies EVERYWHERE, and I would agree. Last time I was there, it was warm out and the restaurant had an alarming number of flies. I, too, noticed that the bus boys were slapping the flies dead with the towels used to wipe the tables. It was disgusting me quite a bit while I was eating my breakfast, but I just put the thought out of my head and tried to enjoy a nice meal with my family. The people that work here also tend to have a very bad attitude (eg, the young man who pointed and scolded at me for wanting to be seated).

I went with my wife and kids on a Sunday morning before heading out to a pumpkin farm. The seating was very quick and we got a booth that was large enough for the 6 of us. The server brought us some water and the utensils. We ordered drinks first which she brought without delay. As I grabbed the spoon so I can mix the cream and sugar in my coffee, I noticed something on the fork and knife. A further inspection revealed what looked like dried up egg yolk on the fork and an unknown substance on the knife. I was taken aback and disgusted on the 'cleaned' silverware that was handed to me. I expressed my concern with the server and she apologized and said she would bring back new ones. I further inspected the other utensils she has provided to my family and observed a consistent material on the 'clean' forks. The server brought back was she said was clean utensils, however, she failed to learn from her first mistake. I checked the new ones she brought back and my eyesballs almost popped out of my face when I saw even more nastiness on the fork. I grabbed the fork she had just brought back and showed her the filth that was on the form and asked her if she would eat with it or let her children use it. She had no words to say. My wife was embarrassed for her and I told her this was a horrifying experience for us. I thought the pumpkin farm was going to be scary because of Halloween but this place sure horrified us. So I warn all to check everything before you put anything in your mouth when you spend your hard earned money at this rotten apple pancake place. Ohh I almost forgot. We did end up going to egg harbor cafe in Wheaton and you should probably check my review of them. Quite the opposite of here. Enjoy!!!

I have been going to this pancake house since they opened which I'm pretty sure was about 12 years ago. They have always had a very friendly staff. They get to know your name and, if you become a regular, your kids' birthdays. The portions ARE huge. The only thing I would change is the coffee.. I wish it were a little stronger. I'd be willing to pay 25 cents more for better stuff. Someone on here said something about being charged wrong.. I've had that happen once but I mentioned it at the register and it was immediately changed.

Big Hearty Portions. That's one thing this place has. I stick to omelets and pancakes here but some time I see a dish go by that I really want and end up asking the waitress what it was. It has a diner-y homeish feeling decor. I have never waited more that 10 to 15 minutes tops. The service is average, nothing to write home about.
(3)Mike O.
Great value and atmosphere. Big portions and prices are very good One note though if you come in during a busy time they sort of hurry you along. It doesn't bother me because I'm a fast eater but it may bother some.
(5)Rick D.
Have been coming here for years and still, Hands down the best place for breakfast. If you are a fan of eggs Benedict, like me, the classic Benedict with ham and asparagus is the best. Just come hungry because the portions will pretty much cover you for the rest of the day. Also come early because as big as this place is, it fills up 7 days a week.
(5)Amanda H.
My husband really liked his food. I was unimpressed. There were a ton of flies EVERYWHERE!! The bus boys were swatting the flies away with the towels used to wipe off the tables. We were seated next to the owner/manager as she was making the schedule. Apparently, that meant break time for all staff. Seriously, it was like this woman was holding court or something. I just kept thinking how couldn't she not notice all of these gross flies?!?! When we paid, the staff acted put out to have to tend to the register. Plus, there was a used hair comb on the counter! I wouldn't recommend this place nor would I go back.
(1)Dave P.
Get ready to eat.. a lot. Breakfast is the best here! Lunch is pretty good too. Every time I come here there's no wait at all. There's so much to choose from on the menu. Portions are huge here.. it's easy to share one meal with someone. Last time my girlfriend and I shared a junior apple pancake. Yeah. The name "junior" should be reconsidered. We could barely finish it. It was still really, really good though. Overall be prepared to leave really full.
(5)Richard B.
This place has a pretty typical diner-style menu, but the food has never been disappointing. I'd recommend any of their Eggs Benedict and I had awesome White Clam Chowder the other day. I usually go here for lunch and the place gets packed but the turnaround time is really fast. I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes for table.

Red Apple certainly lives up to the hype regarding big breakfasts. I love going out for Breakfast/Brunch and it's pretty hard to mess it up. Some of my friends will question this as quite a few of them sing Red Apple's praises, but I can't rate it any higher. The food is good. No question there. Huge portions and made to order. The menu lists all the breakfast staples--baked omelets, skillets, pancakes, waffles, crepes, build-your-own meals. I opted for the California Egg White Omelet--mushrooms, green onions, avocado, jack cheese. Very well made and very fresh ingredients. It comes with a side of breakfast potatoes which were OK, a little on the bland side which was easily fixed with dashes of pepper. You get a choice of toast or pancakes, and since "pancake" is in their name, figured I should try it. Very good, fluffy pancake, nice mild sweet flavor. This was a huge portion and at least half was taken home in a to-go container. The thing I can't get out of my head and why I can't rate any higher was that the restaurant seemed so dingy. Dingy-hole-in-the-wall I can handle, but dingy-dirty is not very appealing. The busboys, although clearing tables quickly, were not very careful. Throwing plates/silverware into their busing bins, caused all this food to fly out and onto the floor. The last thing I wanted was a piece of someone else's scrambled egg hitting me or landing on my table. And the floors were cruddy with old food/used napkins. The restaurant was very busy this Sunday morning, but there were lulls where I saw everyone standing around--so no one else sees the old food under those tables or in the aisle, eh? And the hallway floor to the bathroom? I'm not even going to mention it. Such a shame, All it made me think of was whether or not the kitchen was in the same shape. Maybe the place is a bit more appealing on less-busy days, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to check it out again.
(2)Jared W.
Red Apple is hands down my favorite breakfast place. The prices are low, and the portions are huge. It's the kind of place where you need to come hungry, and you probably won't need to eat the rest of the day after you leave. This is one of the few places where I take leftovers home. I know the decor isn't going to blow anyone away, but with the food that they have, I usually look at nothing by my plate anyway. Just be careful if you go there mid to late morning on a Sunday. The place will be packed, but they do a good job of getting people seated pretty quickly.
(5)Michelle F.
I met a couple friends here for breakfast this morning--AMAZING FOOD!!! And the other yelpers are right, the portions are huge!! I ordered the vegetarian omelet with pancakes--I was only able to finish about a quarter of the omelet, half the hash browns, and some of my pancakes all for under $8! It was awesome! My daughter ordered the french toast sticks--there were a ton, they came with fruit, and she was sacrificing when she let me try a bite--I can see why she loved them so much! They taste like funnel cake! :) My friends enjoyed their stuffed french toast and their bacon belgian waffle, too. Neither one of them finished because, again, the portions are huge! I will be back for the s'mores pancakes I saw on their specials menu on the way out :)
(5)Jake S.
It get's tough reviewing breakfast places, as roughly 90% of your experience inside any breakfast place is the same as all others of it's ilk. It's one of the times when I'm most formulaic: my first visit is always a randomly chosen omelet, toast, and a short stack of pancakes because those are the staple items of any breakfast joint, and how well any breakfast joint does them gives you an idea of their capabilities. Red Apple stood out with an absolutely MASSIVE omelet, and the buttermilk pancakes were fluffy and soft, with very nice syrup retention abilities. I did get new silverware as I was seated, as the first set I was given apparently had a little of it's previous users fare still attached - the superfast turnover they here makes me unsurprised that such things will happen on occasion. I shall definetely return in the future to stretch my breakfast horizons...and maybe get one of their skillets instead of an omelet.
(4)Joe E.
Just go!!!!!!!! You won't regret it. Words can't explain how fantastic of a place this is!
(5)CJ B.
My partner and I come here quite often and we only had one time where we didn't enjoy ourselves. This place is always busy and here's why: the staff here is so friendly and hospitable, and I love that their portions are so generous! I highly recommend they cheesecake french toast! It's so good!! I love their waffle fries as well, so we always get that to share. We've had their skillets, omelettes, the red apple sampler and they are all so good! This is the best breakfast place in the area for sure! I've only had their turkey club sandwich off the lunch menu but it didn't disappoint! The only think I will not recommend is anything with their hollandaise sauce, maybe it's not what I am used to? It was way too yellow and not creamy like I'm used to.
(4)Kate M.
I was pretty happy with the food and service at Red Apple. Everything we have had here was tasty, huge portions, and lived up to the menu's description. The potato pancakes were nice and fluffy, not greasy like most potato pancakes. The eggs and hashbrowns were really yummy, cooked as ordered. As others have mentioned, when you order 2 eggs here you get 4, order 1 you get 2. So come hungry! The service was good, not too much, not too little. I'll definitely be bumping Red Apple to the top of the rotation more often.
(4)Brian M.
Great food and service. Family has been coming here for years. Always good.
(5)Tim Y.
Fantastic food! Skip the lunch items and stick to the breakfast fare - it's why I'll be back! Mary J. is right that the smoking "section" is right up front, and I didn't expect to be greeted by a big whiff of smoke first thing, but there are some seats in the non-smoking section where you can't smell it. They ought to eliminate the smoking section entirely or invest in better air scrubbers; a pair of household air cleaners just isn't cutting it and makes for awkward first impressions like I had. That said, I feel I need to reiterate -- great food! You'll leave with leftovers, I guarantee it.
(5)Jennifer S.
In years past, the Red Apple would have earned at least four stars from me, but we had such poor service that I feel the need to take away a star. We were seated in the front section - there are probably six or seven tables in this area. Anyhow, we were seated right away and we waited. And waited. And waited. A waitress kept walking by but never said anything or even nodded at me, so I figured that she wasn't our waitress. Finally, I stopped her and pointed out that we were waiting for our waitress and she informed me that she was our waitress. Well, you could have fooled me! As the meal went on, we determined that she had to be new, but the same thing happened to two other tables in her section while we were there. My thirteen year old son even noticed it and pointed it out. Not a good way to start a meal. Moving along... Michael tried to order the Bavarian cream filled crepes. He was disappointed to learn that they were out of Bavarian cream. So, he went with blueberry filled crepes. There were three large crepes included and he made it through about half of the plate. Anthony went with his standard corned beef hash and eggs. I should mention that the eggs are double yolk, so two eggs is more than enough for your meal. He said that the hash was pretty standard. It was afternoon when we got there, so I went with a chicken breast on a croissant with bacon. It came with french fries and a cup of soup. The whole reason that I really went with lunch was to try the chicken tortellini soup. That was the winner of the meal! What a tasty broth. Giant pieces of white meat chicken. Large chunks of perfectly cooked veggies. I would make a special trip for that soup alone. The price is right. The staff is usually friendly and attentive. The food is yummy. The large cups for the drinks are nice, so you don't go thirsty five minutes into your visit. We'll be back, but may have to request a different waitress.
(3)Natasha O.
Come hungry. That's the only advice I can give you. Holy cow is everything amazing. Prepare yourself to bring 2/3 of your meal home with you. Yes, I will be back. Hopefully a lot. I'm already dreaming of their fluffy buttermilk pancakes.
(5)Megan B.
My husband and I usually never go out to eat breakfast but one morning we decided to get pancakes in our location to try something "new". When we got there we had to wait a little bit as it was busy but we didn't really mind. When we got seated our waitress took care of us very quickly and we ordered the pancakes. We had to wait for them for around 15 min and when the food arrived it wasn't what we ordered. We than had to wait another 10 min for our order. The waitress and the whole staff were very apologetic however. When it came down to eating pancakes (they give you a lot of food!) it was not what I expected. I really didn't like their pancakes. My husband said they were ok, but I just did not like them. That is why even though this place has nice staff I will not eat here again.
(3)Vince A.
Finally got the change to try the famed Red Apple. Was it good? Sure. Was it 5 star impressive? No. Went here on a Sunday morning, short wait, but nothing unreasonable. Got a booth, opened the paper and the waitress was there with coffee right away. Browsed the menu and wished they had told me they had apple pancakes when I checked in to wait. I would have ordered one (since they normally take 30 minutes to bake) Anyway, got a western skillet which was good. Didn't realize it was a two eggs = 4 so it was a lot of food. Wished the hash browns were done a bit harder. Tried the pancakes and they were fine. Coffee was average. All in all I will go back and try and apple pancake but based on the basic breakfast it was no better than Mapleberry which is closer.
(3)Nancy G.
The best part of breakfast was the coffee. The food was fine, nothing special. I will be back.
(3)Mike B.
Good food and lots of it; my Son really enjoys this place; had quick service and for the portions the prices are pretty average; I don't know if it is just me but there is something missing in the taste fo the food that compells me to give it a five stare rating
(4)Tyler L.
Not a big fan of this place. I went in there and the place smelled like the roller rink (dirty feet smell). The service was subpar as well as the food. There are plenty of great breakfast joints in the area, I don't recommend Red Apple.
(2)Elizabeth W.
OMG! Red Apple, how is it that I have not reviewed you yet?! I am so sorry, let me rectify this situation right away... The Red Apple is, hands down, the BEST place to get breakfast in the western suburbs! The menu is huge and filled with the yummiest and most decedent breakfast items around. The portions are very large, you can definitely share, but really, why would you want to!? MINE! I have had and would suggest any of the following: the baked omelets, the turkey sausage, the fluffly buttermilk pancakes, the baked oatmeal, and the corned beef hash. If you have some arteries to spare, there are many tempting egg, sausage, and cholesterol filled options to choose from. If you are health conscious, there are always egg white, turkey sausage, lean and mean options to satisfy you as well. As much as I boast about the breakfast, the lunch menu is just as good! Do yourself a favor, come and try the Red Apple. Be sure to drop by before 2pm because they open and close early everyday!
(5)Arin B.
so good and the prices are reasonable. i've had many things off the menu and everything has been good. recently i had the chocolate chip pancakes, the short stack which comes with four pancakes. it was huge and i could barely finish half! definitely worth checking out if you're hungry and you love breakfast.
(4)Peter F.
Best breakfast in the burbs. Great quality, portions and great looking female waitstaff. Everything is excellant.
(5)Jeff C.
In summary, good food at a great price and make sure you arrive hungry! After reading many yelp reviews, it was not clear if Red Apple was a good choice, so we ventured out to decide for ourselves. Somewhere between reading about portion size and ordering my food I forgot about the general agreement on portion size and went on to order far too much food, but I felt I needed to taste enough variety to get a good first impression... Here's what I found. Upon first sitting down I noticed the unusually high variety of jams and creamers available at each table. No less than 8 varieties of jam and 2-3 more surgarless jam options, along with a basket of at least 4-5 flavored creamers (in addition to regular creamer). Most reviews I read commented on portion size and pricing, to which I agree, great value and sizable portions are the norm at Red Apple. When my skillet arrived, I thought it was fairly normal size, but then I dug in and it had more depth than most and it was topped with not one, not two, but four eggs! A bit overkill on the eggs if you asked me, but I'm not complaining. The skillet was great, but then again, who can screw up a skillet? For sides I tried their bacon and a half order of biscuits and gravy. Bacon was thick cut and perfectly prepared. I thought the biscuits and gravy were good, but they weren't unusually exceptional or anything; I will order them again. The side of pancakes that came with my skillet were good, but the consistency was not as light and fluffy as I prefer. Rather you could feel how hefty/thick the pancakes were when cutting them with the side of a fork. They were still good to eat, but I'd rather go to Butterfield's if I'm going to order some great pancakes. OJ was fresh squeezed, and while good, I didn't feel the quality was as high as some other local restaurants. Maybe it's the type of oranges used?? I don't know. At the end of the day, it was still fresh squeezed OJ and therefore very good, I'm just a stickler for top grade OJ, and lots of it. Which brings me to my next point, Red Apple did not offer OJ in a carafe, which for me meant ordering glass after glass after glass. Not the end of the world, but offering a carafe would have been a nice option. Given our experience, we will definitely be back and we agree with the many reviewers who say - Go here!
(4)Sara J.
Goo....................... This place was not what I expected after so many people ranting and raving about it. Apparently most have no sense of taste. We went here on a Sunday morning about 10:30, PACKED. no problem, you have to expect that on a Sunday morning. We waited for about 10 min before we were seated. The place isn't exactly up-to-date with the furnishings, wall decorations, or menu. But hey, it has a cozy home feeling, I can dig that. I was told by my friend who is pretty much a regular here, to try the Country baked Oatmeal, I was just getting over being super sick and Oatmeal was the last thing I wanted to eat, so I went with the 1 Egg breakfast which actually turns out being 2 eggs with hash browns, bacon and toast. Why would you advertise a 1 Egg breakfast when it's really 2 eggs? That doesn't make sense to me.. Anyway, the eggs were good, not runny or over cooked, always a plus, the hashbrowns were pretty much scalloped potatoes, disgusting. Greasey, hard as rocks, just gross. The bacon was surprisingly good. Usually bacon can be very rubbery at restaurants, but this was nice and crunchy. All in all, I might give this place another try just for the Oatmeal, but if you've never tried the place or really wanted to, your not missing anything..there are tons of other breakfast joints around that completely blow this place out of the water! Cheers! :)

I just moved into the area and noticed that the parking lot of this restaurant was always full so looked forward to trying it. Went on a Friday morning and there was a wait for a table. I ordered the eggs benedict - which means poached eggs. The eggs were boiled hard. I never return food but this was really unacceptable. When I asked the waitress to take this back, instead of taking my plate back to the kitchen, she went back and consulted with the cook, came back with a small plate and asked me to remove the eggs from my plate, which also removed most of the hollandiase sauce. She eventually came back with under poached eggs in a small bowl. My friend had a portobello omlette which was good. The pancakes were so-so. We were not offered a choice of fruit instead of hash browns. Don't think I will be going back.
(2)Benjamin B.
Meh. Came on the high recommendation of yelp. Service was slow, food was decent. Got overcharged for a "weekend special" which ended up being regular price. Seems like a place where regulars make up most of the clientele. I guess a slightly better choice than dennys across the street.
(3)Marvin R.
Love this place. Stuffed French toast is amazing good food good service. Prices are reasonable if go on the weekends be prepared to wait. I would have given them a 5 but coffee is always burnt and bitter.
(4)Frank N.
We've eaten at the Red Apple in Wheaton on a few occasions. Very outstanding experiences! The food was always prepared well and served in abundance. The Swiss Cheese and Mushroom Omelete I ate there was very well prepared and delicious! Others at our table ordered different meals and all were served in abundance! One in our party requested a change in what he received and the new dish was provided without extra expense or trouble. On another occasion I ordered a Grilled Chicken Breast Salad and it was huge. I could hardly finish it. Because the food is so good, the restaurant is busy much of the time. Your choice booth may not be available, but if you wait, you won't be disappointed.
(4)Kurt H.
Great for breakfast. Good service, good food, decent value, and....they keep my coffee cup full.
(4)Hummad H.
After reading the reviews on Yelp, I headed out here with my wife. We were pretty disappointed with the food. The service was fine, and our server was polite and curteous. The portions were definitely big. My omlette and hash browns tasted pretty plain, and my pancakes weren't fluffy. The fresh squeezed orange juice tasted like it was out of a carton. I will say that my wife's burger was pretty good though. It had that home grilled bbq flavor to it.
(2)Josh M.
First off the amount of food they pile on each plate is obscene. You could easily split each plate for two people. Even when I think I'm starving I still end up going home with half of the food. I found this place a couple of years ago and since then I have eaten breakfast here at least a dozen times. The menu is huge and all of the dishes are made very well. I am a sucker for fresh potato hash browns and they were nice and even crispy. The skillets are great with a bunch of good combos to try. I most recently had the country fried steak which was smothered in one of the best renditions of country gravy I have found outside of my own kitchen. On a side note I haven't tried the apple pancake yet (can't wait 30 mins) but I hear its amazing! The only thing I can complain about is the upcharge for extra toppings in the skillets and omelets was a big pricey. Also on busy weekends it can be difficult to get refills and fast service. Overall the food makes up for the so-so service and the above average prices. If you are in the area for breakfast this is a must try place.
(4)Anthony M.
At fist glance pulling up in the parking lot we really were not sure about this place. The building and the lot were a little beat up. None the less the inside was warming with murals in the celling and country motif on the walls. My wife had the french toast ( yes they warm up there syrup which is key the wife says) and I had the Tijuana skillet. Both were really good. Start to a good little Sunday.
(4)John V.
We will be heading back there, soon, hopefully. We went for a Valentine's Day breakfast. So this was a Sunday morning around 9:30 and it was crowded, which was to be expected. We still only had to wait 15-20 minutes and got a nice comfortable table in a quiet corner. They told me they'll take reservations for groups of 5 or more over the phone. The breakfast samplers are great combos and great values... 2 eggs = 4 eggs, it's true. I got the Alpine, which included their version of Potato pancakes. These were not at all what I expected. They looked and felt like regular pancakes... fluffy, and made from a batter... but they tasted just like I expected a potato pancake to taste. It was really neat. I didn't know what to think at first, but I really enjoyed it.

My family has been going to Red Apple for years - it's always nice for breakfast or lunch, the owners and waitstaff are friendly and attentive, and the menu is extremely extensive. Though there is often a wait around mid-morning on weekends, we are usually seated promptly, and the service is quick no matter how busy they are. With the bright, cheerful atmosphere and conversational tone of the servers, I have never felt like I've been left waiting for my meal or check. I've been pleased with many of Red Apple's breakfasts, salads, and sandwiches, but my favorite dishes are their chicken quesadillas and their chicken salad-stuffed avocado. I don't think I've ever really been disappointed with one of my meals, so I certainly recommend it.

Went back to Red Apple recently... Even better than I remember. I highly, highly, highly suggestion trying the Apple Pancake. They have two sizes - Junior and Regular. I ordered the Junior which almost covered the whole plate, but not quite. It was like eating apple pie - in breakfast form. It's good stuff!

I can never ever ever finish my breakfast here... like everyone here has already said, the portions are HUGE! My husband never gets anything except country fried steak when we go out for breakfast, but last time we came to Red Apple, he ventured to try their steak & eggs special.. he managed to devour all 16oz PLUS the 4 eggs.. and immediately knocked out (happily) in the car.. We pass several different breakfast places on the way to Red Apple.. I believe even if we lived more than 15 minutes away we would still make the drive once in a while.. I know a lot of people have talked about the wait but we have never waited for a table.. maybe it's because we usually get there around 8am but isn't that about the time that people go for breakfast anyway?? oh and we have gone here for lunch once, and it was also great.. food was fresh and portions were still huge =)

Great food, good value and even better service

I can't believe we've lived out here for a year and have just tried this place! So, so good. I was feeling healthy, so I got one of the veggie and egg specials and it was delicious and there was a ton of it (four eggs - I couldn't finish) but I for sure want to go back and try one of their Bavarian cream filled concoctions. It was under $20 for the husband and me and we really enjoyed it. Go early though, they get real busy real fast.

Being from Chicago and being new to the area, I have gone here for breakfast since being here (1x a wk for a month and a half) I haven't been disappointed yet. I have ordered the breakfast croissant (a breakfast special M- F and a huge potion with hashed browns at a great price), french toast 2x2 (eggs, french toast, with either bacon, sausage or ham. I choose ham) tasty eggs, french toast (a lil dry but still pretty good), ham(juicy and a bit sweet) and a ham & cheese omlette (huge, not dry and lots of cheese & ham). Haven't tried the pancakes yet, and I mean yet...maybe next week :). Friendly wait staff, been here twice during the weekend one time it was extremely busy, got a number and was seated in less than 10 minutes. Needless to say, I am going to be coming here faithfully for my breakfast fix.

Taste ok. Too much food.

I dont think Ive ever had a bad meal here. Great food. Great service...the only reason they dont get a 5 star rating is every time i use those little coffee creamer things, they are always spoiled. Come on, whats up with that? Otherwise, thumbs up

This is a great breakfast place. The food portions are large and the prices are very reasonable. I ordered a Spinach and Feta Cheese omelet and it was fantastic. Our waitress was very friendly and even brought a small plate of potatoes for our toddler.

I'd like to know what everyone sees in this place! Standards must be extremely low, because the breakfast here was awful! Maybe the portions were large but the quality was poor. I ordered fresh blueberry pancakes, they were so obviously made fro a mix they had a strange yellowy color and tasted salty, YUCK! I noticed tables around me and everything just looked like a lot of slop on a plate! The coffee mugs were gross to drink out of, they seriously need new mugs and the plates were plastic. Please people, get a palate! This is whats wrong with America, just give em enough food no matter how good and they are in heaven. Disgusting, don't waste your time and money. For the reviewer that said" You won't regret it" a yeah I really regret it, it sucked. I have the feeling most of these reviews are written by the owners or the employees.

Went there for brunch on a Saturday morning, and the place was packed! Abundant breakfast options, gigantic portions, and tasty food for a low price. I got a delicious denver omelette (huge) that came with standard hash browns and pancakes. Pancakes were really good. Kudos to the friendly waiter who attentively kept my cup of coffee full for the entirety of the meal.

Our family with 5 kids love Red Apple for breakfast. The kids meals have very generous portions and we always leave full and very satisfied. Love their pumpkin pancakes, omelets, and scramblers. Service is always great as well.
(5)Michael B.
Very extensive menu with portions that are out of this world. Don't order two eggs, you will get four. Groups could easily order less food and all would be happy. Very flexible with substitutions. Could we open later in the day. And who ever heard of paying for containers to take your leftovers? That alone cost a star considering how much food they give you. Give it a try!!!

Everything about this place was good. Huge portions, awesome breakfasts, and service to match. I had the Original Eggs Benedict which consisted of 4 poached eggs, 2 thick slices of Canadian bacon, over two large English muffins that were drenched in hollandaise sauce. My wife had a huge omelette that was full of cheese and ham. If I had to choose a downside it would be the fact that I can't come here more often.
(5)Rose W.
If you are looking for an out of the ordinary family friendly breakfast/lunch place, the Red Apple is definitely the place to go. Friendly staff, plentiful good food. It's all you would want in a pancake house.

The first thing I noticed when I walked in here was the smoke. The smoking section is right at the front of the restaurant and even with the fan they have going, you can still smell it no matter where you sit. -1 star. The food is great and you get tons of it! I had a Mexican omelet. Usually these are so lame. I have no idea why restaurants say they're spicy, maybe they put pepper on it. Anyway, here it was just right. It had jalapenos and chirozo (however you spell it) and it was the size of my plate. I got enough hash browns to feed my family along with it and 2 HUGE pancakes for the little man. We had a great, veteran waitress named Doreen who was very attentive and helped us get out quickly when the 2 year old started a meltdown. The place looks like a big seniors hangout, but there were a few business people in there for lunch. All in all a good dining experience, something hard to do with a toddler.

Love Red Apple! Have never had a bad meal there. Their omelets are baked and consistent. Great Salads. I don't order plain eggs and bacon here. That just seems like a waste to me. Portion sizes are large. Service is very good. Have breakfast meetings once a month here and all, enjoy.

There is no bad place to sit in Red Apple as the whole restaurant resembles the inside of a quaint farmhouse kitchen. Even when jam packed on a Sunday afternoon we did not have to wait terribly long to get a table, and although the service lacked personal touch it was completely forgivable as the food made up for it all. A succinct menu with the house specialties listed right at the beginning made ordering a breeze even with so many awesome dishes and combinations to choose from. I have never felt the need to return to a breakfast place to try everything on the menu until Red Apple! The food was delicious and very affordable with extremely generous portions.

My husband and I have only been for breakfast, and we have loved it every time. Cute, kitschy decor. Huge breakfast portions. Great place for a Saturday morning breakfast. Love the Nutella Crepes, the french toast, and the omelets are HUGE. Great hash browns.

I refer to this place as my "Yelp" induced breakfast spot. I'll explain. Recently, my son and his girlfriend moved to Wheaton and while I was familar with the area as I delivered out there regularly, I never had the time to actually stop and eat in the area. I always remembered Apple Tree as a place that was almost always crowded and had the look of an old fashioned family restaurant. I decided to look it up on Yelp and going with only the results found there, I advised the whole family to try them for breakfast. We haven't been to another breakfast joint since. If you saw some of the other reviews mentioning the "huge" portions...they're not kidding. The menu selection is excellent. There is something there for even the most discerning morning appetite. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the one thing there that everyone in my family raves about....the bacon. Four huge, thick slices of some of the best tasting bacon we've ever had. If you're ever in the area, give them a try....you won't be disappointed.

I warn you, do not come here for breakfast after eating a steak dinner at 10:00 the night before! This restaurant is for people who want hearty food and lots of it! I have only been here for Sunday breakfast. Yes, there is a wait then, but so does every other breakfast place on Sunday morning. Why aren't all of these people in church? Everything I have tried has been great. If your Mom trained you to clean your plate like mine did, you are in big trouble. Curse you, starving children in China! I am putting my thighs squarely on your shoulders!! Fortunately, Seattle Sutton is just a block west of this place. There is nothing like eating a huge $7.00 breakfast and then spending $110.00 on a week's worth of diet food just so everything evens out.

We go here all the time, mostly for breakfast, but lunches are also great! I like the potato pancakes, Irish skillet, and Mexican skillet. Waitresses are wonderful and you can call ahead to put ur name on the list.
(4)che c.
My favorite meal is breakfast! This place is my favorite place for it! The quality of food for the price is great. Big portions and flavored creamers. They are not a 24 hour restaurant which makes it even more special. I wish there was a place like this in the city. It has a homey feel to the place. The wait tends to be a little long on weekend mornings so be prepared to wait a while or go somewhere else.
(5)Sara B.
Um yum!! The first business to stay here for an extended period of time since Wag's closed in the 80's. This place does breakfast mostly and they do it right! I get to eat here on rare occasion because I am not usually out to see the family before 3pm when this joint closes. It is usually crowed but is a great place especially if you have kids in your party.

The Best. You absolutely have to go with a group in order to taste everything you'll want to have. FRESH EVERYTHING (except probably milk as I saw no cows). Always bustling, yet the service has not disappointed in half a dozen visits. My tip for busy days is to call when you're leaving the house to get your name down to shorten the wait. When people say the portions are double, they are not exaggerating. If you order 2 eggs there will be 4 eggs on your plate. Pumpkin pancakes are delicious! And if you're a fan of sausage gravy, I'd rate theirs just below Bob Evans. Everything here is that breakfast you've had but slightly better and double the size. Price is very moderate.

My sister and I went to this restaurant at lunchtime. You definitely get a lot of food for the price here. The waitresses were attentive and helpful. The food itself although large in quantity was low in quality. The hashbrowns were bland and the quiche was cold, however certain items other were great. Overall I would say as far as food it is not consistent some items are great and others are well below par, you need to know what to order.

This is one of the best breakfast places in the burbs. Having moved from the city, I was afraid that I would never find an establishment that would compare to our favorite hole in the wall breakfast joints in our Chicago neighborhood. But then I went to the Red Apple. There is always a wait on the weekends, usually out the door. But waiting 30 minutes for a Red Apple skillet is worth it. Here are my favorites: Popeye skillet: Spinach, bacon, cheese and eggs piled on top of hash browns. I know, typical skillet prep but there is something extra tasty about the Red Apple's skillets. Mediterranean Omelet: spinach, feta, tomato - YUM (the omelets are oven baked and super fluffy) Pumpkin pancakes: Pumpkin spice and cinnamon is twice as nice Portabella skillet: Ham off the bone and portabella mushrooms and cheese of course! They have a variety of flavored creamers at the table for your coffee and the fresh squeezed OJ is extra sweet. This is a small place so large groups will find accommodations difficult. Great for kids, they give a balloon and an apple to the little ones on the way out. And they have a nice kids menu. The service is usually very good, but this place is sooo busy that you have to cut the wait staff a break if your coffee runs low. They also have very good lunch selections, and they have those waffle cut french fries which are so bad for you but delicious nonetheless. The down side is that they close at 3:00 pm, and when I say close, I mean they tell you that you need to wrap it up and go kind of closed. But I am in the food business too, so I know that there is still a lot to do after 3:00 pm before they can actually leave. And now the best part, Illinois has banned smoking in all public places!!! Whoo Hoo!!! Before January 1, 2008, I would have listed the smoking section at this place as a big negative. But alas, we smoke haters can dine and breath. This is by far better than those old hole in the wall places in the city. Blows them away...

Simply the best place for breakfast, period. Great food, silly large portions, and all at a fair price. One of my families favorites, I have nothing bad to say, many meals here and always great. Never once have I had a less than five star experience. Owners know how to run a top notch place!

4 egg omelette's aint nuttin' to F$&! wit'! Yes, I thought it apprpriate to start off this review with a Wu Tang Clan quote! This breakfast and lunch restaurant is your typical diner atmosphere with great food and pretty good service. Weekend mornings can lead to longer waits (1/2 hour at least during the church crowd rush) so be prepared. I've been their during the week for breakfast and its smooth sailing. My omelette order was screwed up once on a busy Sunday morning and the waitress took it off the bill (she was a bit flighty, but nice). I love the omelettes (especially the Cali version). They are made with 4 eggs, hashbrowns, and your choice of toast or pancakes (got the pancakes once, no way in he11 could I eat the whole thing). I've had the skillets and prefer the omelettes. Waffles and pancake specialties look amazing when ordered but I've never had one. Would defintely recommend stopping in for breakfast.

Not necessarily what I would consider a hole in the wall but it does have an old school type of charm to it. They do a great breakfast and this coming from someone who only eats breakfast here and there. Portions are huge, you could easily share one meal between two people, but there is so much you want to try on the menu that it's hard to share anything bc you want to take a bite of everyone's food (at least I do). My most recent visit consisted of country fried chicken with sausage gravy. It came with hash browns, 3 eggs and pancakes. I barely touched anything else beyond the chicken and hash browns and I was beyond full. Such a great meal for only $9. Typical to any business that serves up brunch, Sundays are ridiculously busy and the wait can be horrendous. This is definitely one of my favorite places when to grab brunch when I'm in the suburbs.

Yummy! They know how to make oatmeal taste great. Everything is delivered to the table hot and delicious. Sunday mornings after 9am there is usually a wait. That's the best time to order the special Apple Pancake that takes 30 minutes - that way it will be ready when you are seated. Wait staff is very friendly and timely - most have been there for a few years so they are on top of things.

this restaurant is awesome. we usually eat here every Sunday! The food is great and the portions are huge, i always have left overs! Even though i don't smoke the smoking section doesn't bother me, it is right by the front door, but i never feel like the smell is overwhelming. my only complaints are the hours (only open until 3pm) and the fact that there is no where to wait for your table, there is always a crowd right inside the door and people waiting outside, but now that its getting colder everyone is smashed inside. they really need a larger waiting area with more seating, since there is always a wait for a table.
(5)Julie C.
This is a nice small restaurant with great breakfast food. I always check on the samples it really is a sample of anything and everything. You can still get lunch here but why would you when the breakfast is just so good :) Prices are cheap for everything you get and the service is fast too.

i've always liked this place. recently my friends told me about mother's pancake house on north ave, it was awesome!! a ton of food, very reasonably priced, service great and friendly. now im torn, gonna try mother's again for lunch this week. still feel loyal to red apple.
(4)Danielle G.
Red Apple is consistently the best breakfast I've had most places. The skillets are so tasty, and usually you have enough for lunch. Omeletts are baked and have a nice crust. I've never had a bad meal here.
(5)Diva S.
If you're ever in the suburbs, make sure to stop here for breakfast! Red Apple is a family-owned restaurant with experienced waitstaff (many of the ladies have been working there for years.) The coffee and food are absolutely delicious! I typically order the Red Apple Special (a skillet) - the potatoes and vegetables are always so fresh! My family has tried many different things on the menu, and we're always satisfied with PLENTY of leftovers. If you go on the weekend, you'll probably have to wait to be seated (because the food is so good)! Don't forget to try their famous apple pancake as an appetizer (order it when you put your name in.) Bon Appetit!
